Baptisms

The Baptismal Covenant

Baptism is a sign of new life through Jesus Christ. Through baptism we participate fully in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Christ. The sacrament of baptism unites us with Christ and with our larger Christian community – extending a call to overcome divisions and visibly manifest fellowship.

Baptism is administered with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

In the United Methodist tradition, baptism is open to anyone, regardless of age. While United Methodists are encouraged to reaffirm their baptisms regularly, the Sacrament of Baptism is only offered once as we believe that God’s promise to us in the sacrament is steadfast.

Because baptism is intimately connected to the the life and worship of the church and its community, it is administered during public worship so members of the congregation may be reminded of their own baptism and may welcome into fellowship those who are being baptized.
