Position Description:
This position is designed to provide leadership, coordination, and expertise for ministry programs serving children, youth, young adults and justice ministries. FUMC seeks to foster a vibrant, inclusive and active learning environment, where people in these age groups can explore and deepen their faith journey in a welcoming and safe environment. Further, this Director will work to develop, and resource lay leaders who are committed to nurturing this vital ministry, both inside the church and between the church and the world.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Children’s Ministry – Oversee the strategic management and operations of a comprehensive ministry for children from birth through 5th grade, prioritizing the recruitment and equipping of a diverse volunteer team.
- Youth Ministry – Create and lead Youth Ministry programming throughout the year, ranging from Youth Group to annual mission trips. Develop and supervise volunteers to support this ministry.
- Young Adults Ministry – Engage with Young Adults to foster connection, community, and discipleship. Oversee and coordinate community-building activities for this ministry.
- Justice Ministry – Coordinate congregational teams for justice ministries and mission work, including establishing and supporting connections with community and non-profit organizations, as well as advocacy at the State Capitol and in other justice events.
- Other responsibilities may include collaborating with the pastoral staff in coordinating and implementing new congregational initiatives, participating/leading in worship, providing lay leadership to support ministry and service in the community.
Qualifications:
This person will possess the following:
Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred:
- UMC seminary training, MDiv or equivalent
Personal skills/experience
- At least 2 years of experience in leadership roles with children, families, youth, young adults
- Ability to engage in and foster meaningful relationships with above listed ministries
- Demonstrable skills in leading and building community and volunteer networks to support these ministries
- Strong personal faith and commitment to engaging others in growing their faith
- Physical stamina to participate in hands-on activities and service-learning opportunities
