United Women in Faith, 5th Annual Social Action Day

Saturday, April 12, 9am-Noon

You are invited to the United Women in Faith, 5th Annual Social Action Day on Saturday, April 12 from 9am – Noon. Topics for this event will be, “Becoming an Inclusive Community,” and “God’s Beloved and Diverse Children:  LGBTQ+ identity and Terminology.”  Participants are welcome to gather in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church, or by Zoom. The cost is $10.

“Becoming an Inclusive Community”

Rev. Dr. Israel (Izzy) Alvaran (he/him) is a United Methodist Elder from the Philippines and a clergy member of the California Pacific Conference. He is the only openly gay clergy ordained in the Philippines Central Conference and a founding member of the United Methodist Queer Clergy Caucus. Rev. Dr. Alvaran previously served as RMN’s organizer for the Western and North Central Jurisdictions and is now RMN’s Director of United Methodist Connections. He facilitates “Building an Inclusive Community” Workshops.

“God’s Beloved and Diverse Children: LGBTQ+ Identity and Terminology”

Dr. Sherry Warren (she/her) is the Director of Equity, Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve. She is a trainer the “served the UUA Our Whole Lives human sexuality curriculum. Dr. Warren served the UUA and UCC at the national level and is a lecturer, author, and educator including teaching master’s level Advanced Policy and Advocacy at UW-Green Bay. She is thrilled for the United Methodist Church to welcome all of God’s children and loves consulting with congregations to create welcoming communities.
