Hawthorne, Demco and FUMC had their first meeting of the new school year. It was great to have Sydney Williams join us to learn about our partnership. Hawthorne’s population increased by 30 students, so they are having to add 4K and Kindergarten classes. Another office chair is needed!
Regarding the gardens project, Antonio is planning a cleanup day for a weekend in October. He has also written a grant to get the project going. Both Sydney and Steph (Demco) have experience working with gardens, so we’re hoping our youth, congregation members, and the Green Team will join in to prepare the gardens for winter.
Donations:
Hawthorne is currently well stocked in clothes, shoes, and diapers. What is needed are:
- Snowpants and jackets in Husky sizes (all)
- This year they are using a new breakfast system that offers students arriving after the full breakfast line closes, a granola or protein cereal bar. Nut-free options are requested such as Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal Bars.
***Donations are appreciated, but child car seats and stuffed animals cannot be given to the school. Please contact Target, the UW Health Safety Center, and possibly local Women’s Shelters to donate such items.
On October 12 from 8:15-9:30 is the Hawthorne Hustle. Volunteers are needed to direct students along the running path and cheer them on. Contact Kathy if you are interested in helping.
A Principal Experience, hosted by MMSD, is scheduled for Thursday, October 29. This is your chance to shadow a principal for a morning to see what life is like in an elementary school. Enjoy a catered lunch afterward to discuss the experience. Contact Kathy to participate.
